OPENING YOUR HEART TO RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARD SALVATION

Matthew 11:27-30 - Jesus said, all things are delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

STUDY TOPIC FOR TONIGHT

Numbers 25: Israel's Harlotry in Moab

Good evening, welcome to our Friday Night Bible Study. Tonight we begin our study of Numbers 25. In this chapter, Israel is guilty of sacrificing to false gods and sexual immorality with the Moabite women. Because of this, the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel. The Lord commanded Moses to put to death those who had joined themselves to Baal-Peor. They suffered the same fate as the people who worshipped the golden calf at Sinai and refused to return to the Lord (Exodus 32:7-35); as did the people of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 13:12-13; Genesis 18:16-23; Genesis 19:1-29).

There are several instances in scripture wherein destruction and death followed those who refused to turn away from their sin and return to the Lord. We too are faced with the same decision today; the question is, what will you choose (2 Chronicles 7:14-16)? In this study we will read and discuss the following topics in greater detail as well as the answer to the question mentioned:

  • Israel’s worship of Baal-Peor (verses 1-5)

  • Phinehas intervenes on behalf of Israel (verses 6-18)
